The Ceramic Sculpture & Paperclay Courses
Catering to all levels of experience, from beginners
to professional potters. Personal tuition is given to all participants
and Ian also gives demonstrations of his unique techniques, which
have been developed over thirty years of working in this genre.
The courses offer a stimulating and varied approach to new ideas
and methods of construction for anyone interested in discovering
practical ways of producing their work.
Essentially designed for tuition in all methods of hand building
and sculptural techniques including the use of combined materials,
armatures and the use of paper and flax clay and other bodies for
hand building and figurative sculpture. Including ideas for surface
decoration, firing and kiln construction. Starting on the first
day personal tuition will be given to all participants, at what
ever level of experience, be they beginners or professionals. Ian
will also give demonstrations of his unique methods of construction.

The Studio
Ian Gregory's studio is situated in the heart of Thomas Hardy's Wessex (Dorset), which is famous for its unspoilt countryside. The village is within a short drive of Dorchester, Sherborne and Blandford Forum. Set in the folds of the Dorset downs close to Milton Abbas and designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Dorset coastline is just twenty minutes drive away, where you can visit Durdle Door, Corfe Castle and Lyme Regis or any of the historic towns and National Trust houses that abound in the country. There are also numerous restaurants and pubs in the local area.
Four Day Course
Starting from 9.30am Friday to 4.30pm Monday.
This course caters for all levels of skill from beginners to professional
potters and covers aspects of materials, armatures and the use of
paper and flax clay’s and other bodies for hand building and
figurative sculpture. The course includes information and ideas
for surface decoration as well as kiln construction and firing methods.
Each day is divided into sections for both demonstrations and for
working alone under instruction. The best pieces made by students
in the first two days will be bisc fired by the end of the course
and any other work may be taken away to be finished at a later date.
Throughout the course you will receive a great deal of information
so please bring a note book and camera if you wish, plus an overall,
a towel and any modelling tools you prefer using, plus some packing
materials for transporting your work home.

The course fees include tuition, materials, refreshments and a light
lunch. A (non-refundable) deposit of £50 must accompany
each booking and the full balance to be paid one month prior to
the start of the course or we will offer your place to
another on the waiting list. The numbers of places on the courses
are limited so early booking is advised.
Though we are happy to take bookings via email we will still need
your written conformation and deposit to secure a place on the course.
